The State Homeless Assistance Program provides
assistance to units of local government or nonprofit organizations
providing emergency shelter or short term services to homeless individuals
and families.
State Homeless Assistance funding may be used
for acquisition, renovation, repair, rehabilitation, conversion,
essential or supportive services, operating expenses, prevention
activities associated with providing shelter or services to homeless
individuals. Applicants must have the support of the local jurisdiction,
be able to meet matching requirements, and provide monthly service
reports.
The State Homeless Assistance Program is funded
through an allocation from the State of New Mexico general fund.
This funding is meant to supplement the limited Emergency Shelter
Grants Program. Applicant may apply for either ESG or State Homeless
Assistance, but not both, during a competitive request for proposal
process.
