MFA Executive Director Jay Czar to Retire

MFA Board Chair Angel Reyes announced this week that Executive Director Jay Czar will retire from his position. Czar has been with MFA for 13 years and has guided the organization through significant challenges. For the last three years, MFA has experienced record production and unprecedented growth. "MFA now provides affordable housing to almost 18,000 New Mexicans every year, which is largely due to the vision and direction Jay has provided," Reyes said. MFA expects to name a new executive director by the end of the year.

Nuevo Atrisco breaks ground

Construction has begun on a new project on Albuquerque's West Side, Nuevo Atrisco. The 88-unit property is part of a 6-acre development at Central and Unser that will feature more than 30,000 square feet of office, restaurant and retail space, a 20,000-square-foot plaza and a community event center. MFA provided more than $12 million in funding; the City of Albuquerque donated the land and more than $3 million in funding and contributions.

Mr. Reyes has been the president of Centinel Bank of Taos since 2003 and the bank's chief financial officer for five years prior to that. A Taos native, he graduated from the New Mexico Military Institute as the ranking cadet, completed undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico’s Anderson’s Schools of Management, and earned a graduate degree from the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado. Mr. Reyes has been a member of the MFA board since 2011. “I am excited about the future of MFA,” he said. “We have great things ahead.”
